Meleghy Automotive has invested 6.6 million euros to install new welding lines at its facilities in Abrera, intended for the manufacture of components of the VW Small BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) project, compact electric vehicles and SUVs that will be manufactured by SEAT and VW at its plants in Martorell and Navarra from 2026.

Meleghy Automotive is a Tier 1 company, a direct supplier of vehicle manufacturing companies, dedicated to the manufacture of structural steel components for the automotive sector, specifically the stamping, welding, assembly and surface treatment of metal parts.

It has two plants in the Abrera Industrial Park, one of them specialising in the manufacture of components using transfer and progressive stamping and profiling technology and the other, specialising in the welding of high-performance chassis components and surface coating. It currently has 201 workers.

This investment of 6.6 million euros has been possible thanks to a co-financing operation between the ICF, BBVA, Bankinter and two other banks and corresponds to a first phase, this 2024, when the new production lines will be installed.

It is planned that in 2026 and 2027, new phases of investment will be carried out to match production capacity in the volume growth curve in the compact electric vehicle and SUV market.

This investment will mean a leap forward for the company and the generation of 47 new jobs to consolidate Abrera as the German group's relevant headquarters in Catalonia.
